Our History

The Robert Trent Jones Golf Club Charitable Foundation (RTJCF) was established in 2001, and received IRS certification as a 501(c)3 organization in 2002. The RTJCF conducts golf tournaments, charity auctions and solicits direct contributions from RTJ members to support charitable gifts to national and local charities and to provide scholarships to caddies and staff to defray the cost of college expenses.

RTJCF conducts two golf tournaments annually. The "Charity Tournament" traditionally coincided with a PGA Tour or a Web.com event in the Washington, DC market. From 2002-2018 the RTJCF has made charitable grants during that time totaling nearly $2.6 million. The format for our event is comprised of a Sunday round with retired and active duty Special Operations Officers participating through the auspices of the Station Foundation. A gala dinner, silent and live auction follows on Sunday evening with the tournament round played on Monday. In years past, a combination of PGA and Web.com professionals have been contracted to play in the Monday event.

The Vernon E. Jordan, Jr. Scholarship Tournament started as a "Caddie-Member" tournament, but over the years has expanded to include inside and outside staff and grounds crew. The event is typically held in early August. Although much smaller, the scholarship tournament has generated $375,172 in cash donations from members and distributed $363,200 in scholarship awards from 2002-2018. Scholarships are awarded to qualified applicants chosen by the RTJ management team. Scholarships are funded entirely from the member donations. The golf tournament is a one-day Member-Guest where the "guests" are staff from all departments; paired with an RTJ member.

The chart below summarizes the cumulative distributions to various organizations over the last 12 years.  Our charitable focus is primarily veterans' organizations, active military, first responders and local law enforcement groups and their families.  In 2017, the RTJCF added the Station Foundation as the featured organization for our charitable distributions.  Learn more about the Station Foundation here: The Station Foundation 2017 Annual Report

The RTJCF also supports local charities, including a truly innovative program in Haymarket, VA called Serve Our Willing Warriors. To learn more about this charity and the other local charities we support, please view our
